The visual arts program provides students an opportunity to develop their artistic talent in a studio environment by exploring and solving visual problems in the areas of drawing, painting, print making, ceramics, sculpture, design and technology. Valuable exposure to the local art community is offered through field trips to museums and workshops with visiting artists. Communication and writing skills are enhanced as students analyze art through historical context and examine methods used in critiquing works of art. Students record their feelings, thoughts and ideas in a sketchbook / journal and produce a professional portfolio incorporating a variety of subject matter and media. The program encourages students to create expressive works and to develop a philosophy of art that will further their studies in advanced art programs.
