Scientists Project Resources Description Lists

Objectives

The learner will be able to appraise that scientific knowledge is subject to modification as new information challenges prevailing theories by researching the lives and major contributions of scientists.

Part I: INDEPENDENT RESEARCH

  1. First, middle and last name of scientist.
  2. Birth date and year of death, or if still alive.
  3. Country of birth and where they did their work.
  4. What are they famous for?  (5-8 complete sentences, in your own words.)
  5. One fact you found interesting OR a famous quote by that scientist.
  6. What do you think motivated this scientist to pursue his/her line of work?
  7. What effect, if any, did their work have on society?
  8. What effect did society have on their work?
  9. How did their work contribute to our present day knowledge of science?
  10. What scientific principals sis this scientist challenge, if any? How were they changed? What new scientific principals were derived from this scientist's work?
  11. list and describe the scientist's personality traits. How did these traits help this scientist accomplish his/her scientific discoveries? These might include but are not Limited to: insightful, skilful, creative, skeptical, intellectually honest, perseverant, knowledgeable etc..
  12. References: Should include three sources, one of these must be a book.

Research must be done as a journal entry.

Part II: "Famous Scientist Wanted Poster"

Your poster must include:

  1. "Mug Shot” of your Scientist (in color).

  2. Name of Your Scientist

  3. Birth Date and Year of Death or if still alive

  4. Country of Birth and where they did their work­

  5. What are they famous for? (5-8 complete sentences, in your own words.)

  6. A fact that you found interesting OR a quote by that person.

  7. References on back of poster.

  8. Your name on back of poster.

Due date: Wednesday, october 25, 2006

Part II: ORAL PRESENTATION

Oral Presentations will begin  the week of 10/30/06. Be prepared to answer questions about your scientist.

GRADING

You will earn three grades for this project:

  1. One grade for the Research (journal entry)

  2. One grade for the poster

  3. One grade for the oral presentation
